2010-08-05 [*Phoenix*]: Oooh. I see. That would be a problem. Did you hear that the company is buying homes that were damaged because of the oil, if the owners want to move?
2010-08-05 [Diiwica]: No, but its a good thing that they are, because a lot of people are worried about the oil line breaking again, and the possibility of it seeping into their basements.
2010-08-05 [*Phoenix*]: Ya. Some backyards are trashed too because of the oil covered animals. I know I would be worried if I lived next to the river.
2010-08-05 [Diiwica]: At least the company is reacting a lot faster and what not than what it appeared BP did.
2010-08-05 [*Phoenix*]: Hey, they're Canadian! xD jk! They are being really fast about it all. The faster the better.
2010-08-11 [Shooting Star Shadow]: Canadians are a bit fast about everything, but dang that is some nasty looking mess. Mom and Amber told me the smell was so bad that they'd almost puke when they had gone outside.
2010-08-11 [*Phoenix*]: Wow. I'm sorry you're in the middle of it.
2010-08-11 [Shooting Star Shadow]: I got lucky, left for home the weekend before the spill :(
2010-08-11 [*Phoenix*]: That's good.
2010-08-11 [Shooting Star Shadow]: Yeah it is, only down side to it is. They get oil, one of the local rivers and lakes are closed all summer because they've got highly toxic blue green alge in them.
2010-08-12 [*Phoenix*]: Ya, it's a destroying thing, oil is. The whole situation is sad. A bunch of people are banning together to sue the company for the damages (health problems, yard problems, etc.).
2010-08-12 [Diiwica]: I'm surprised they have to sue. The company was willingly paying for yard repairs, and buying homes of people who lived close enough to the river that it would cause problems. I don't know too much about what they are doing about health issues. But, my grandfather got sick because of it, and they covered his bills, and because he lives in Battle Creek just by the river they offered to buy his house for full value. They've also covered the lodging fees of those who were told they needed to vacate their homes for a while. I don't know if they are doing that for everyone. But where my family lived they did.
2010-08-12 [Shooting Star Shadow]: They are prolly gonna sue do the fact that you don't even have to be near the river to be sick from it. I mean even mom and then were getting sick, and they live no where near the river. So it is just overly bad situation.
2010-08-13 [Diiwica]: They live less than a mile from the river.
2010-08-13 [Shooting Star Shadow]: Yeah I know but still can get sick from it. Even if they are farther away from it.
2010-08-13 [Diiwica]: That was my point. They are less than a mile away, anyone within a few miles is going to have issues. Kind of like the nuc. waste spill theory.
2010-08-13 [Shooting Star Shadow]: I know, which is legal grounds to sue if they knowingly put 'em all in harms way which they did by knowing the pipe was bad.
Bloody dog, is gonna get me smacked.
2010-08-13 [Diiwica]: According to the county, the company asked for permission to close the river for a while to take time to repair the pipe about a year ago. So I've heard from people who works with things like that.
2010-08-13 [Shooting Star Shadow]: Then it would make the county just as legally responsible as the actual company if they refused to let them shut it down to fix it.
2010-08-13 [Diiwica]: When does gov't ever want to take blame for something like this? Honestly, a disaster like this happens and the gov't ALWAYS makes the company pay. While I agree its the company's pipeline its not just their fault. The Kalamazoo rive is more than full of pollutants, in there which does no aid to the corrosion of pipes, pillars and other things in the water.
2010-08-14 [Shooting Star Shadow]: Oh I know, I said they were just as guilty. Never said they'd take the blame for it. Look at the BP situation, they threw them under the bus when both were just as guilt about the situation. Remember all the crap that we'd pull out of the river, that was just ew.
